Personal Mastery for Entrepreneurs

Are You Committed To Learning?

August 7th, 2008 | by ann

Peter Senge said, “People with a high level of personal mastery approach their life as an artist would approach a work of art. They do that by becoming committed to their own lifelong learning.”

Earlier in the year I listened to Charlie Rose interview Alan Greenspan. The last question Mr. Rose asked Mr. Greenspan was “How will you spend the rest of your life?” Mr. Greenspan responded “Learning. That’s what I do every day.” Alan Greenspan has achieved success, as he is curious and committed to learning and growing.

Curiosity and learning is akin to the word wonder, and wonder is a state of wanting to learn more about something. What are you wondering about? What is your commitment to learning something new?

Do You Think Strategically?

July 30th, 2008 | by ann

In the August 2008 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, Oprah Winfrey stated, “Companies spend a lot of money to help define and establish their brand. My brand developed deliberately by accident. One choice at a time. No strategic planning. No marketing or development experts. Just daily choosing to do what felt like the right thing to do.”
- Oprah Winfrey, O, The Oprah Magazine

While Oprah says she doesn’t do any “strategic planning”, she is one of the rare entrepreneurs who naturally thinks strategically. The inability and failure to think strategically plus the lack of a strategic plan continue to contribute to the high failure rate for small businesses. A strategic plan identifies where you are going and how you are going to get there. If you haven’t revised your strategic plan in the last 90 days, this would be a good time to reconsider your vision and strategies.

Recent economic changes will require new thinking and new strategies to remain successful. Oprah Winfrey has achieved success because she’s attained a high level of personal mastery. Entrepreneurs, who possess mastery at reinventing and actualizing an authentic vision for their business and their life, will remain prosperous in spite of our shape-shifting global economy.

Will You Prosper In This Shape Shifting Economy?

July 24th, 2008 | by ann

Our world today has reached a critical turning point. The passage into a better and brighter time will demand that individuals and organizations possess a force of creativity powerful enough to challenge the status quo, disrupt the marketplace, and transform society.
—Patricia Martin, Renaissance Generation

A key quality possessed by successful entrepreneurs is that they are visionaries —they possess exceptional focus and know how to call future possibilities into being.

Successful entrepreneurs understand that the global economy is constantly changing. They know how to focus on their vision while adapting their strategies to meet shifting market conditions and dynamics. Entrepreneurs, who can create and actualize their authentic vision, will remain prosperous and successful in spite of our shape shifting economy.

Are your products, services, and strategies positioned to benefit from the powerful changes occurring throughout the world?

What is Personal Mastery?

July 16th, 2008 | by ann

Personal mastery is the discipline of continually clarifying and deepening our personal vision, of focusing our energies, of developing patience, and of seeing reality objectively.

—Peter Senge, The Fifth Discipline

Have you ever wondered why some people—visionary capitalist, Steve Jobs; award winning film producer, George Lucas; and multi-media legend, Oprah Winfrey—have achieved extraordinary levels of success? Do you assume they are working harder than you? That they are brighter than you? That they are just lucky?

You might be surprised to realize that they are not much different than you. While they appear to create success effortlessly, as if they’ve tapped into some magic or secret formula — the reality is — they have achieved financial freedom by being committed to their authentic vision and path to personal mastery.

The truth is, with the right catalyst, personal fulfillment is available to everyone.
